Kolkata , August 4, 2011 : Crossing a distance of 36 KM over night bare feet used to become a night mare to the pilgrims of Shrabani Mela at Tarakeshwar in West Bengal . But this year is almost different . According to the pilgrims , the road is almost fine like butter in this year and they have never seen so fine road like this in the last 10 years.
Rita Basak who has been visiting the temple of lord Shiva at Tarakeshwar for last 8 years , said ,’ This is really pleasant. I visit Tarakeshwar every year but the road I got this year is outstanding . Previously, it used to be a nightmare to cross the whole 36 KM. Path over the night bare feet . Several times , I got injured .But this year , I am really happy .Almost 70% of the road is in good condition and I didn’t feel any trouble due to injuries in my legs .’
She more said ,” Previously we used to get 20% walkable road and the rest was indescribable. It was tough to walk the whole path bare feet . It was really horrible but this year is different.’
We talked to Mintu Pal who has been visiting the temple of lord Shiva for last three years , said ,’ each year when I visited Tarakeshwar , I saw the municipalities collecting money from all pilgrims but never watched them to repair the road and as a result we used to walk on the unconditioned road bare feet and we used to get injured… but this year we are really happy as the road is almost fine.’
Ram Manohar Singh , the 65 years old pilgrim alleged about some persons who abused him in Sheoraphuli Ganges Ghat . He said , ‘They were giving coupon of Rs. 3 where they were taking Rs. 10 from each person .When I protested , I was abused by Some youth who belong to the age group of my son .when I denied to give the money they tried to snatch money from me by pressure & I had to pay them. Rs. 10 doesn’t matter but the way they were taking money wasn’t ethical and hence I protested.”
